TVP Community fund helps us continue our safety education work

We were thrilled to attend the Thames Valley Police Community Fund presentations on Friday 31st October.

Simon Steed, our Your Voice Engagement Manager, went along and was delighted to receive a cheque for Talkback for £6,160.

This funding, from Thames Valley Police, will help us continue to create our personal safety short films, which are used to help inform and educate autistic people and people with a learning disability on how to be safer in the community. These films, and training materials, have proved to be a fantastic resource for local groups and families.

What subjects will our films cover?

Thanks to this funding our next project will look to examine and explain modern slavery. This film will carry on the work we started last year, producing free Cyber Crime training resources and more recently our Cuckooing video, which is currently available to download here.

Simon, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this funding, which will allow us to continue our important work in personal safety education and training.  We know that vulnerable people can be targeted by criminals, who look to exploit them for financial gain. In our films, we look to explain  clearly what is meant by terms such as cuckooing and cyber crime. We highlight the risks and dangers and advise individuals on how to protect themselves. These films have the secondary benefit of raising an awareness to support workers, carers, employers, and community leaders to these issues. This can help them to  recognise warning signs and support individuals in reporting crimes to the police.”

“All our films are produced and performed by our members working with Ultimate Films.  This means that anyone watching sees themselves represented, which helps them relate to the information being shared.”

What happened at the presentation ceremony?

The ceremony was led by the Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Barber. During the ceremony presentations were given by organisations who had previously received funding. Each gave inspirational talks about how the funding had helped their organisations.

Talkback’s cheque was presented by the Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Barber and  Chief Constable, Jason Hogg.
