Spring has Sprung

Today, the 20th of March,  marks the beginning of spring with the Spring Equinox. It’s a time to say goodbye to the dark depths of winter and hello to new beginnings. Nicola Martin shares with us what this means to her.

“The word Equinox comes from Latin, it means equal night. Although the Equinox is a few days after day and night are equal lengths, the time when day and night are of equal length is known as the Equilux. On the 27th of March the clocks will go forward one hour at 1am, giving us more daylight hours.

“To me, spring means reawakening, new life, and new beginnings. More so than new year in January.

“Nature begins to reawaken and now we have more daylight to be able to enjoy it. Walking through the countryside keeping your eyes peeled for a glimpse of a baby animal.

“I used to enjoy the arrival of spring a lot more than I do now. Living in a town there is not much of nature left. I do not get to see the blossom on the trees from my window. Wandering the garden seeing which of my bulbs had reawakened. Being able to hear the birds sing instead of traffic noise.

“Spring is a time to start getting outdoors. Preparing gardens for the growing season ahead. It is also a time to catch up on jobs you have put off doing during the winter months.”
