Serving up work experience at All Saints Church

Members of our Personal Development Skills (PDS) programme, Lifestyles group have been enjoying their work experience placement at the Mustard Seed café at All Saints Church in High Wycombe.

Three members of our Personal Development Skills (PDS) programme, Lifestyles group, have been taking part in a work experience placement at the Mustard Seed café at All Saints Church in High Wycombe.

Every Tuesday they’ve been busy at work, taking orders, making hot drinks, taking payments, clearing and washing up. With placements such as these our members gain practical experience in how to use different types of equipment.  They also building their confidence by talking to people and managing to complete their orders.

We had some great feedback from our members:

“I like serving a regular customer and making her cups of tea”

“I like talking to Penny also serving customers, taking their drinks to the tables.’

“I enjoy chatting to customers each week. I also enjoy learning to use the microwave. I enjoy the social side of working in the cafe as well as learning new skills.”

It’s not just our members who benefit from these placements, by having our team working there, the Mustard Seed Café is able to open for business on a Tuesday. As they said: “Talkback are enabling us to serve the community.”

Our PDS programme works with adults and helps to develop their life journey. It covers key areas including employment, travel training, well-being, relationships and personal safety. We also provide access to sports, the arts and DIY skills.

In order to provide these services, we are reliant on the support and help from numerous businesses and organisations around the county. If you are a local business or organisation and would like to get involved with the Talkback family please get in touch.
