Volunteer with a member

It’s almost Volunteers Week. Come and help us make a difference to people with learning disabilities and autistic people

As Volunteers Week is almost on us, we are always looking for volunteers to help support our work and the continual development of our amazing members.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to give something back. But it’s not just the people you help that get something from it. It has been proven to be beneficial to volunteers themselves. It boosts mental health, and many studies have even shown that it can improve overall long-term health outcomes.

To give you some science behind those claims, studies have found that additional participation in voluntary services has resulted in an 8.54% increase in mental health. A 9.08% in physical health. 7.35% increase in life satisfaction. And an 11.11% in social well-being. As well as 4.30% decrease in depression.

More than that, it is also a great way to improve confidence, make friends and build employability skills. Whether you have a passion for drama or an interest in the arts. Or skills in woodwork, would like to help people be more active, or just would like to hear more about how you can get involved, please get in touch. We can help find the right role for you.

Here are some of our current volunteering opportunities:

Drama Group Volunteer

Aylesbury Tuesdays between 9.30-3.30

We are seeking a volunteer to work with our drama group to support the group leaders, helping members to have fun and get as much from the group as possible. We would love to hear from anyone with any of the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in drama/creative arts
  • Ability to enable people to express themselves through drama and encourage confidence
  • Inclusive and person-centred approach
  • Technical skills eg set building

Volunteer to support with woodwork/Accessible Workshop

Aylesbury Tuesdays and/or Thursdays between 9.30 and 3.30

We are looking for a volunteer to help at our social enterprise, the Accessible workshop. We are looking for someone who has knowledge, interest or experience of DIY, woodworking, craft or trade skills.

General volunteer

Aylesbury or High Wycombe between 9.30 and 3.30 various weekdays

We need volunteers to be able to keep giving our Talkback members the opportunities they deserve! Could you make a real difference to people’s lives while having fun, making new friends, and learning new skills along the way?

For all roles:

Volunteers will need to undertake a DBS for the role, which Talkback will arrange. As well as undertaking necessary training (we will offer support).

You may have experience (personal or work) of supporting people with a learning disability or autism though this is not essential. You will need to have a calm and flexible approach.

We can offer you a trial session if you’d like to see what it’s all about first. When you join, you can expect a full induction and comprehensive training. As well as ongoing support and supervision. You can find out more here.

Please help us develop a world of possibilities for our members.
