Festival of Sport and Fun 2024
We are thrilled, after the success of last year’s event, to be holding our second Festival of Sport and Fun on the 8th July at Wycombe Leisure Centre. Sport and being active are integral parts of what we do at Talkback and we want to be able to showcase that in a way that encourages everyone to get involved. The day will be packed with a wide range of sporting sessions run by our partners, each of whom has significant experience in providing sporting opportunities for autistic people and those with learning disabilities.
What will we be offering?
There’s a wide range of sports and activities on offer, these include:
Badminton
Wycombe Badminton Club welcome people of all abilities. Coach Steve Jacobs who will be at the Festival has lots of experience of working with people with autism and with people with a learning disability.
Netball
The netball sessions will be run by coaches from England Netball. Talkback have enjoyed a great partnership with England Netball over the past few years. Our members love netball and enjoy playing team games. We hope you will come along and find out just how much fun netball is for everyone.
Dance Fitness
Tisha has lots of experience of running dance and fitness sessions for our members at Talkback and we are delighted that she is back at this year’s Festival of Sport. Tisha’s session is fun, no stress and all about building your confidence. She will have you smiling, laughing, and dancing!
Seated Yoga
Julie Pons Woods is a Yoga Therapist and Anatomy Teacher since 2009. She offers yoga therapy and chair yoga sessions in South Bucks County. She runs Workshops throughout England and Europe and teaches 2 online courses (anatomy and somatics) per year. She welcomes private clients in her garden studio called “in the woods” in High Wycombe. www.yoga-therapy.uk and www.anatomy-yoga.uk.
Everybody is welcome! A class on and around the chair, aimed at people of all ages, with or without mobility issues. If you want to keep fit and improve your range of motion in all directions, this class is for you!
Cricket
The cricket sessions will be run by Chris Burnard of Inspire 2 B Active. Chris’s passion is to make sport (cricket especially of course) accessible and fun for all. Chris says ‘I have always loved being able to help others find the confidence and enjoyment to learn and experience new things.’
Boccia
Led by our own team, a fantastic sport based on bowls designed for those with disabilities.
Bowls
Led by Handy Cross Bowls Club at the indoor bowls arena at Wycombe Leisure Centre,
Climbing at Wycombe Leisure Centre
The Climbing centre will open its door from 11am to 1pm so you can look around at the Festival of Sport and find out about getting involved in this exciting sport. The club run taster sessions every Tuesday and Wednesdays. Here’s the link to find out more Climbing | Wycombe Leisure Centre | Places Leisure

Wycombe sports centre are our hosts for the Festival. They are very keen to welcome us all and will be providing tours of the centre and there will be taster session in the gym. If you need a rest from trying out lots of new sports you will find plenty of space to relax there and enjoy a cuppa and snack in their café. Check out their website Wycombe Leisure Centre | Gym & Pool | Places Leisure
As well as this, we will be running a marketplace of stalls with more ideas to keep you active. More information on those will follow soon.
Who can join us?
This is a truly open and inclusive event. Any autistic people or individuals with learning disabilities are very welcome to come along and take part. You don’t need to be a member of Talkback. If you live in Bucks, we’d love to see you there.
How will the day work?
The day is a drop-in session. You can join us at any point and try out any (or all!) of the activities. There’s no pressure to be involved in all of it, so if you just want to come along and try one sport, then that’s totally fine. As well as the activities, there will be a range of stalls (because it’s a festival) to find out more about local organisations.
What happens after the day?
Whilst the day itself will be a fun packed event, we will also be working with those people who would like to continue to be active. Each of our sessions are designed as a gateway into future participation in the sports. We will be creating pathway sessions so everyone can stay involved and stay active. There will be more about that on the day and when we follow up.
