We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Travel Training programme, supported by a series of seven engaging videos that can be found on our YouTube channel – as well as via links in the accompanying training workbook. Developed in partnership with Buckinghamshire Council, these resources are designed to help young people build the skills and confidence needed to travel more independently.
The comprehensive workbook, as well as a comic, guide learners through the key aspects of independent travel. The content introduces travel training and highlights the benefits it can bring to education, employment and social opportunities.
Across the video series, learners are taken on a structured journey covering:
- The importance of independent travel and future aspirations
- Staying safe in the community and when using public transport
- Planning journeys effectively, including using tools such as Traveline
- Gaining practical experience through supported bus journeys
The programme uses relatable storytelling to explore common concerns, build problem-solving skills, and encourage young people to think about their future independence. It also provides practical guidance for trainers and carers, ensuring learners are supported step-by-step and introduced to travel gradually and safely.
Overall, the Travel Training programme aims to open up opportunities, build confidence, and support young people in Buckinghamshire to access education, employment and social activities through greater independence.
