We’re helping to create safe relationships champions

We’re working with Buckinghamshire Council to train those working with people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people to better identify and report cases of abuse.

People with disabilities are nearly three times more likely to experience unsafe relationships. It’s a shocking statistic and it needs to change. To help make the change, we’re working with Buckinghamshire Council. We’re going to train people who work with people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people. In order to better identify and report cases of abuse, particularly domestic or sexual abuse.

We want to ensure that every learning disability and autism service in the County employs at least one Safe Relationships Champion. Each Champion will initially be asked to attend a virtual training session.  They will last approximately 2 and a ½ hours (to include a short break!). They will then join a Champions Network where (anonymised) experiences can be shared. And further learning can be gained.

The Champion will be responsible for taking the training he or she has received and ensuring all working for your service are aware of the issue. As well as understand how to better identify cases. He or she will also be one of the ‘go to’ people when handling any internal cases reported.

The next virtual Safe Relationships Champion training session will be on November 9th at 9.30am. Please contact caroline.morris@talkback-uk.com(telephone 07419 989006) to book your Champion into a session, to ask any questions about the sessions or the role, or to discuss alternative dates or times. We will be running further sessions.
