Annual Health Checks – Getting it Right

According to the NHS, people with learning disabilities die significantly earlier from preventable illness than those without (19 years for men and 14 years for women). It’s an awful statistic and underlines just how important it is that people with learning disabilities undertake an annual health check at their doctor’s surgery.

Over the last year, in Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire our Talkback – Your Voice Project, have produced and filmed a video for people with learning disabilities and their support staff. This video explains why it’s important they take up their annual health check and what to expect.

To accompany this video, we have also created a Wellbeing Resource pack which provides games and activities, that can help support a healthy lifestyle.

We will be sending this video and pack out to the care/supported living homes, we have been working in around West Berkshire, Wokingham and Reading. If you would like to receive this pack or would like more information about this project call 01494 434448.
