Advocacy Awareness Week: Nicola’s Story

“Talkback has helped me in many ways by finding my voice, giving me the support to get my confidence back. Although the best thing Talkback has given me is employment and hope for the future.”

Nicola was referred to Talkback last year, this is her story:

“Talkback has helped me in many ways by finding my voice, giving me the support to get my confidence back. Although the best thing Talkback has given me is employment and hope for the future.

“Before I found Talkback my life was heading in one direction, and it was not a happy one. Since finding them a whole new world has opened up to me and I am looking forward to seeing which direction my future heads in now. I have the confidence to get on a bus by myself to meet up with a couple of work colleagues. As my confidence builds, I hope this will lead to more adventures.

“It has helped me that I am allowed to take my time to find my feet and only do things I am comfortable with when I feel comfortable to do so.”

We are extremely grateful that Nicola now works with us as part of our Communications team and so proud that she was recently shortlisted as a finalist for the Learning Disability and Autism Leaders’ List Awards 2021 – hosted by Dimensions UK. We can’t wait to see what she does next.
