Transitions to Work helps AJ secure an IT role at Fairhive

Our Transitions to Work has been an 18-month project, funded by the Rothschild Foundation. Working with Citizen Advice Bucks, the aim of this programme has been to help 24 autistic people aged between 16 and 25 years old, into the world of work. As this programme comes to a close, we’ll be sharing with you the success stories of our members who have participated in this scheme.

First up is AJ who, following work experience with Fairhive, a certified Level 3 Disability Confident Leader, applied for and was successful in getting a fixed term post within their IT Support Team. This is a great chance for him to gain paid experience and he has already proved to be a great asset, setting up equipment for new users, troubleshooting issues and updating their Service Desk.

AJ commented: “The Transitions to Work scheme has helped me with my confidence, as well as getting me experience in IT. This has led me to a paid role (with Fairhive) for three months, which I am enjoying.”

Rick Smith, Head of IT Systems and Data for Fairhive, stated: “AJ is a great addition to our IT team as he is always so willing to learn new things and always approach each task with a smile and has settled into the team really well.”

Ian Rowlands our Employability Coordinator, had this to say: “It has been fantastic to see how AJ has grown in confidence and developed new skills during his time with Fairhive. The IT team have been so supportive of him, and AJ’s success has further solidified our relationship with Fairhive, hopefully creating opportunities for other young people in the future.”

Good luck in your new role AJ.

Working with Citizens Advice Bucks, our Transitions to Work programme provided:

  • Application preparation.
  • Job finding support.
  • Interview preparation.
  • Money and benefits advice.
  • 1:1 coaching.
  • Up to six months “in-role” support.

We would like to say thank you to the Rothschild Foundation, whose funding to date has made this programme possible. We’d also like to thank Fairhive for working with us to make this employment opportunity possible.

We are always looking for organisations or businesses to support us, so that we can provide training for our members to gain the skills and confidence needed to help them enter the world of work.
